Diamonds are a girl’s best friend

Publisher : Magna Publications - CITADEL Pune

“Diamonds are a girl’s best friend” This adage rules the life of Indian Woman so much, that if the platinum jewelry ain’t adorned with diamonds, it ain’t worth buying! With the wedding season gone by I’m sure we all witnessed an ostentatious display of wealth with the biggest gold & diamond jewelry ever. From nose pins to Toe rings, jewelry truly defines a woman.

I personally know of so many ladies in the city who consistently visit the top jewelry showrooms, as if they are on a religious trip. And the endeavor is simple, to acquire the latest designs and styles. Irrespective of the fact whether it suits you or not the rule has become simple - Bigger the better! While chatting, they candidly confess that they never worry about diets, coz the only carrots that interest them are the number of carats in a diamond

When the world is running behind simplistic wedding band trends, India is still stuck in Jewelry being synonymous to the economic status of a family. Men want to pamper their women with the biggest wedding ring possible and women want to show off across social networking as if their marital success will depend on the number of likes they get on facebook. People forget that “jewelry has the power to be this one little thing that can make you feel unique” and it necessarily might not be the most vulgar blob of shine but the most delicate and minimalistic design ever.

There are simple rules to choosing the right kind of jewelry and here are five important factors that should influence your choice:-

Occasion & Ensemble: Begin with figuring out the event for which you have to wear. Pick out your dress and start choosing your trinkets. For instance, if it’s a wedding you can surely pick up a garish set but if it’s a party you might want to stick to a dainty look which is sophisticated. For anniversary celebrations you can wear an entire set but for a birthday party you should stick to feminine danglers. Follow the trends but also know your style statement. In traditional functions you should wear the ethnic gold and for other events contemporary styles are welcome. A lot depends on the outfit you are wearing!

Skin Tone: Start with determining your skin tone. Based on the color of your veins, your skin tone may fall into one of two categories, cool or warm. Cool skin tones are identifiable by bluish colored veins. People with cooler skin tones may notice pinkish or rosy-red undertones when looking in the mirror. Cool skin tones favor metals & stones such as silver, platinum, white gold, pearls and diamonds. Stone color should focus on jewel tones such as pinks, purples, blues and reds.

Warm skin tones are identifiable by greenish colored veins. People with warmer skin tones may notice yellow or golden-apricot undertones when looking in the mirror. People who's natural hair color is blonde almost always have warm skin. Warm skin tones favor metals such as gold, and copper. Stone color should focus on more earthy tones such as browns, oranges, greens, yellows, peaches, corals and also turquoise.

Face cut: Heart & Diamond Shaped Face should wear danglers or drop earrings which help to lengthen the face. In necklaces, chokers help contrast and soften the sharp angle of the chin. For round shaped faces try angular shapes. Square shaped faces look particularly well in teardrop earrings. Look for necklaces that elongate your face, typically necklaces that extend below the neckline. Rectangular & Oblong Shaped Faces, choose short or round earrings to contrast the longer face shape and stick to tight chokers. Oval Shaped Faces should wear medium length Earrings, not too long preferably angular shaped. Necklaces can be either long or short as per your choice.

Personality: Picking a jewelry style can be the first step toward creating an iconic image for yourself. Pick the jewelry that flatters your aesthetic and suit your personality help to determine what type of designer jewelry is your signature style & aesthetic persona. One of the simplest factors in determining what type of jewelry best suits you is the type of activity you do. If you constantly use your hands for activities like rock climbing or painting then rings may not be the best style of designer jewelry for you, but earrings might be a better selection. Designer rings are better suited for individuals in white collar positions or in an occupation in which you are interacting with people. Active lifestyles often require minimal interference from outside factors—such as hair or jewelry—so if you are a hands on mom designer, jewelry items like necklaces or earrings can be avoided to focus on whatever task is at hand.

Age group: For different ages there are different jewelries… For example young people between 20 – 30 years of age are dynamic and fashion trends conscious; therefore they are recommended to try trendy not too expensive silver or gold jewelry with artistic cuffs. The decorative value ought to be greater than the financial value. If you are 30-40 year-old middle-aged, then wear sparkling diamonds, which highlight your skin and personality. Team it up with gold or diamond bangles, especially with Indian wear. For 40 years old or older women looking dignified is imperative, so the mix should choose jewelry design tradition - classic style. Stuff like Jade, Pearls are a good choice. Of course, you can wear diamonds too but stick to simple strings sitting on your neckline & wrists rather than chunky pendants. Showy Jewelry is a strict no-no.

These are just suggestions from personal experiences over a decade which you may or may not follow. It’s of utmost significance to feel comfortable in what you wear. So keep these basics in mind and go ahead and flaunt your style. Copying a tradition for the sake of being in fashion will just make you look foolish and out of sync. Remember that jewelry should add to your charm and not over power your personality.
